Ten convicted of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has found guilty ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The defendants faced charges of disseminating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to posting malicious remarks about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.

The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has not yet been published.

A longstanding false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.

This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.

Their complaint states that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence contradicting her allegations opting to give a platform to established defamers.

Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.

Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she was a teacher at his lycée.

The two entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
