This January recruitment period is always a time of intense rumour and potential major moves. A number of notable players find themselves connected to moves out of their current teams. Here is a look at some of the major figures who are poised to be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player in contention, it appears a significant transfer is imminent. This Bournemouth attacker possesses a deal with a £65 million release clause applicable for a two-week period at the start of the month. Latest developments indicate the Premier League champions have emerged as his signature. Former suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have turned their attention to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late move.

M. Guéhi

The English defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a summer move to Anfield falling through. As his contract set to run out in the summer, this represents the club's final chance to secure a fee for their skipper. Numerous top clubs, including Manchester City and multiple European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a winter departure remains difficult, particularly given the manager's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

The Wales winger has had first-team minutes hard to come by at Spurs this term. Despite finishing as the side's leading goalscorer last season, he has begun only a handful of league matches. Reports suggest the North London outfit would be willing to consider a sale for the right valuation, believed to be in the around forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

Rúben Neves

This Portugal midfielder could be set for a comeback to the Premier League after a spell in Saudi Arabia. M. ter Stegen

The experienced German goalkeeper is now as third-choice at Barcelona under new manager Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a January exit looks increasingly likely. Villa were once mentioned as a potential destination, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be expressing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

This proven England centre-forward has kept finding the net frequently in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling hopes of making the national World Cup. But, arranging a transfer poses major hurdles. Al-Ahli do not wish to part with him, and his reported enormous salary render any agreement complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all mentioned as interested parties.

As his current deal running down, many Premier League clubs – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the developments. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but face a battle to retain one of Europe's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ first team. The teenager is heavily tipped to complete a major transfer in January. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing stiff competition from Real Madrid for a signing valued at around £22 million.
