Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
