Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a message before the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own gradual return to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists backed by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
